Week 9 - Camp Site Selection Results and Answers

Here is a map illustrating potential camping areas. I included the Conservation Areas as a feature reference for finding the ideal area to camp.

Q1: Which tool did you use? Was there any noticeable difference between its results and the results from the instructions?
The "intersect" method worked the best for me. This method was logical and straight forward.

Q2: Which tool did you use here? Why?
I used the "erase" overlay tool to remove the portions of the Campsite's polygons that were inside of the Conservation Areas.

Q3: How many features are in this layer? What is the area of the largest feature? What is the area of the smallest feature?
Total of 79 features. Largest was 7,765,034.49 square meters and smallest was748.114 square meters.

Week 4 - Haiti Relief Map

I found this map, ftp://157.150.195.135/Maps/DamageAssessment/PAP_assessmentmap_overview_block.pdf, posted at http://www.un.org/Depts/Cartographic/english/htmain.htm. It depicts all the basic information one would need to begin a survey of the affected areas. I think this is an excellent example of a well designed and formatted map.

Week 3 - Mexico

The first map depicts Mexico's high and low elevations, second map shows cities within Central Mexico, and the third map illustrates Mexican population densities. This map assignment was fun! I love making maps. Also, I found out that its much quicker to turn off all "nonactive" layers when editing.

Week 1 - New Youth Center Location - ESRI Module 1

Deliverable 2 - a map depicting potential locations for a new youth center.

Week 1 - San Diego Zoo - ESRI Module 1

Deliverable 1 - an image depicting the location of the San Diego Zoo. It was a little confusing if we were suppoose to export the map as it appeared at the end of step 8 or if we were suppose to export the "final map" shown in the layout view. I tried to follow the instructions, so I ended up with an image of the dataview.
